Other Work Samples for:

Parker has demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of 2D shapes. The shapes have been accurately identified and the lines of symmetry have been correctly drawn except in the case of the rectangle. Features including angles, sides and corners have been correctly described. Some technical language has been used to describe the angles but there is little use of mathematical language in the response to the question about the symmetry of a circle. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard midway through Stage 2.

Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

Foundation Statement strands

The following strands are covered in this activity:

  • Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning.
  • Space and Geometry
Students name, describe and sketch particular 3D objects and 2D shapes. They compare angles using informal means and describe a 'right angle'. Students use coordinates to describe position and compass points to give and follow directions.
