Writing

Description of activity

Students plan, draft and write a narrative using visual stimulus as a starting point. They use one or more images from the visual stimulus sheet.

Prior learning

The students have jointly constructed narratives with the teacher deconstructing and modelling stages. The students have read a variety of narratives, predicting how resolutions will be achieved.

Outcomes

Producing Texts (WS 2.9)
Drafts, revises, proofreads and publishes well-structured texts that are more demanding in terms of topic, audience and written language features.
Grammar and Punctuation (WS 2.10)
Produces texts clearly, effectively and accurately, using the sentence structure, grammatical features and punctuation conventions of the text type.
Spelling (WS 2.11)
Uses knowledge of letter-sound correspondences, common letter patterns and a range of strategies to spell familiar and unfamiliar words.

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • plan, draft and edit their own writing
  • use written language features and conventions appropriate to a narrative text
  • use a variety of time conjunctions and connectives to sequence events
  • use a multistrategy approach to spelling
