Indra has demonstrated a very high level of competence in using a range of artistic techniques to create a portrait. The composition is inventive and playful, filling the frame and making a striking impact. The unusual viewpoint of a portrait within a portrait expands upon the idea of the gaze. There is a strong narrative aspect and references to Whiteley’s work. A vibrant sense of colour, and variation in brushstrokes, integrates the figure and the space. A very high level of competence is evident in the drawing and painting of the face and in the accomplished rendering of difficult areas such as the hands. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A standard.

Grade A

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
