Dale has demonstrated a very high level of competence in using a range of painting techniques and glazing to represent the subject matter of the city. This cohesive work, inspired by the study of Australian artist, Grace Cossington-Smith, uses broken colour, short brush strokes and tonal gradations to create a dynamic and fresh interpretation of Sydney Harbour. A Fauvist colour palette has been used to create impact, and glazing has been used on the bridge to create a luminous, reflective appearance. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A standard.
