Work Samples - Grade C

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade C.

At the end of Stage 5 for the School Certificate, student achievement is reported using the Course Performance Descriptors. Read more about School Certificate Grading.

Activity: Composing Medieval Music (View Activity…)

Students compose a piece of music reflecting the features and structure of music of the medieval or renaissance periods.


Activity: Theme and Variations (View Activity…)

Students will arrange the theme of 'The Streets of Forbes' as well as two to three variations using different techniques.


Activity: The Music of Sarah Hopkins (View Activity…)

Students will compose a work that demonstrates an understanding of the compositional processes and techniques used by Sarah Hopkins, using a photograph of the Australian outback as stimulus material.


Activity: Composing Variations on a Theme (View Activity…)

Students compose an eight-bar theme and six variations in the classical style for the piano


Grade C

The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.
