Kerry has demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of volume and surface area. Appropriate strategies have been used and accurate calculations have been made. The diagrams are clear and the correct units have been used. The calculation of the slant height is accurate but rounding to five decimal places is not appropriate. A clear understanding of the practicalities of the problem is evident in the decision not to include the base as a surface requiring facing. Kerry has shown well-sequenced working and has communicated mathematical ideas effectively. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B8 standard at the end of Stage 5.

Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
