Pat has demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of successive discounts. The calculations have been well chosen and demonstrate efficient strategies to support the answers. The statement in question 1 has been disproved numerically and the statement in question 2 has been proved algebraically using generalisations. Despite the lack of links to number rules and some less efficient calculations, Pat has solved the problems accurately and communicated mathematical ideas clearly and effectively. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A9 standard at the end of Stage 5.

Grade A

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.
