Kerry has demonstrated a thorough understanding of the features of a letter to the editor. Although there are occasional inconsistencies in structure, the letters have been appropriately formatted and make effective use of persuasive language. Rhetorical questions have been used to engage the audience. Kerry has presented logical arguments, supported by evidence, and has shown an understanding of the key issues. Assertion, elaboration and logic have been incorporated, although somewhat more successfully in the first letter. Kerry has investigated with some insight, and confidently displays a developing personal style. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard at the end of Stage 5.

Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
