Courtney has demonstrated a basic understanding of equivalent fractions and limited competence in operations involving fractions. Simple fractions have been added and multiplied but the lowest common denominator has not been used and there is no simplification to mixed numerals. Single fractions have been represented as diagrams but questions 3 and 4 demonstrate no understanding of the concept of multiplying fractions or its application to a real-life context. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade D standard at the end of Stage 4.

The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.
